With Lost Trail Powder Mountain at the southern end of the valley, Montana Snowbowl just outside of Missoula, easily accessible backcountry terrain, backcountry yurts and huts, and great cross country skiing, the Bitterroot Valley is home to a dedicated skiing and snowboarding community.

Where are the ski resorts in the Bitterroot Valley?

  • Lost Trail Powder Mountain: Located at the southern end of the valley, the Lost Trail Ski Area offers some of the best terrain and conditions around. It has two super fun terrain parks and great backcountry access. There is also a huge nordic ski area right across the street.
  • Montana Snowbowl: Located just north of Missoula, Montana Snowbowl is a small family friendly resort known for inexpensive lift tickets, great backcountry skiing access, and deep tree skiing.

Where can I go cross country skiing in the Bitterroot Valley?

Two groomed and well maintained cross country ski areas are available within the valley. Como Trails are located just outside of Hamilton at the Lake Como Rec Area. Lost Trail Nordic Area is located directly across the street from the Lost Trail Ski Area.

Where can I go backcountry skiing in the Bitterroot Valley?

From backcountry access gates off of Lost Trail Powder Mountain and Montana Snowbowl, to backcountry yurts and lodges, to hiking access up many nearby canyons, there are many options for backcountry skiers and boarders.
